Losing Interest In Lost

Lost is becoming the big hit of the new TV season. Of course the big question is what's the answer to the mystery. Otherwise known as the 'Lost Theory'. I posted my idea a few weeks ago. USA Today ran an article yesterday about the internet buzz on various theories.

That mystery and the eventual outcome provide the underlying tension I have with the show. The mystery is like the will they/won't they sexual tension seen in just about any drama/comedy featuring a male and female character. But once that answer is provided what will be the hook?

I doubt the show will provide the answer any time this season, or perhaps the next season. Oh yes, I do have a dream that the show's creator, J.J. Abrams, attempting to have some artistic integrity originally said to the network: "this idea I have will only run for one season, at some point we'll need to answer the question to the mystery, and once we have there is no other place for the show to go."

But alas people sell out, and the show must go on. So we'll most likely see a season two and three of Lost.

Now I am torn. I am almost certain that we won't get an answer anytime soon, so why dedicate my time watching a show that will continually tease me. It's like going to a movie, watching it for two hours and then it just ends without resolving any of the major plotlines.

Perhaps that is why some reality shows are so popular (besides the human interest factor). You know at the end of the hour something is going to happen, and at the end of the season you will have a winner.

The flip side is the mystery is revealed at the end of the season, then what?

Perhaps I'll just stick to my standard watching procedure, taping the show, and then fast-forwarding to watch only the intense dialogue scenes.

i am planning to do my dissertation on lost for media and cultural studies, but am unsure as to the subject matter, (perhaps the construction of a week by week soap, or looking at the ways in which lost has united cultures on the island?) but could someone help me determine which websites may help and suggest a title because i am extremely stuck!

My friends and i think perhaps they were all put there by their friends and family because when you think of it they all are there because of someone else. also that the island contains all sorts of different animals tha normally wouldnt be on an island..(polar bear) we think it has something to do with noah and the ark in the crossword that someone was doing the answer was gilgamesh which is translated noah in the scriptures. which would explain all the religious things in the show, maybe the rest of the earth was destroyed and they are all left to start the new "race of people."

I also think there may be subtle similarities connected with Shakespere's The Tempest. This show forces one to read a lot because it explores a lot of themes that have been raised in literature.

I have a good theory. I reckon that everyone on the island in lost was at a specific point in their life when they felt that they needed some SERIOUS councelling and nothing seemed to work. Then an experimental procedure came up, a matrixy sort of thing. The docters hooked up a virtual dream world or somthing or connected the participants thoughts somehow and 'the island' was born. They then placed a series of tasks and challenges for each person to perform or overcome in order to reform them and sort their problems, just bear with me. Now i reckon that Jacks dad is resposible for all this and jack agreed to do it because he felt guilty about striking him off. All the participants memories were erased from convenient points and then the treatments started at convenient points in the story also, for example Jacks dad dying would be part of the dream but him going to oz wouldnt be (until he found him). Now i dont think i have been given enough details from the show but i have some good backup.

A. Every time someone has died it was right after they resolved their major issues. Boon sorted himself out and stopped loving shannon then promptly died. Shannon Found someone who really cared about he and didnt stitch her up all the time and ran off looking for walt selflessly (probably the first selfless act ever for her) then promptly died. Anna Lucile couldnt killl the bloke who tried to kill her, shes obviously reformed, no wait shes dead. Although Libby im not sure.

B.Loads of convenient circumstances relating to their previous lives. Hurley and the numbers, Echo and the plane, John and his legs...

C. The Others could be the docters performing the treatment influencing it in the right direction.

Anyway just a thought
